DC 5V Infrared Proximity Sensor Module | 10–100cm Adjustable
DC 5V Infrared Proximity Sensor Module – Active Diffuse Reflection Photoelectric Switch
Upgrade your automation projects with this compact, reliable DC 5V Infrared Proximity Sensor Module (Model: TAD-9128). Using active diffuse-reflection infrared technology, this non-contact sensor instantly detects the presence of a person or object within its adjustable sensing range — no physical contact required. Made in Mainland China, with MCU circuitry designed in Taiwan.
How It Works
The sensor emits an infrared beam and monitors the reflected signal. When a person or object enters the sensing zone, the output switches from 0V (low) to 5V high level, triggering your connected device. Once the object leaves the zone, the output resets automatically. A built-in red indicator LED lights up when sensing is active.
Key Features
- Adjustable Sensing Distance: 10cm–100cm (±10% tolerance). Turn the knob clockwise to increase range; counterclockwise to decrease. Note: knob does not rotate 360°.
- Working Voltage: 5V DC — compatible with most microcontrollers and single-board computers
- Low Power Consumption: <1mA static, <5mA dynamic
- Sensing Angle: 10–15° cone angle for focused, directional detection
-
Simple 3-Wire Connection:
- 🔴 Red wire → Positive pole (VCC)
- ⚫ Black wire → Negative pole (GND)
- 🟡 Yellow wire → Signal output (5V high level when triggered)
- Available in Two Configurations: A (with mounting holes) / B (without mounting holes)
- Color: Black | Material: Plastic
Detection Tips
- Distance: Closer objects reflect a stronger signal and are detected more easily.
- Color: Bright/light-colored surfaces reflect better than dark surfaces.
- Size: Larger objects have greater reflectivity and are easier to detect.
- Surface Texture: Rough surfaces tend to be detected more reliably than smooth/mirror-like surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What voltage does this infrared proximity sensor module operate on?
A: This sensor module operates on 5V DC, making it compatible with most microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino boards, and other 5V-based electronics projects.
Q: How do I adjust the sensing distance on the infrared proximity sensor?
A: The sensing distance (10cm–100cm) is adjusted using the onboard knob. Turn it clockwise to increase the detection range and counterclockwise to decrease it. Note that the knob does not rotate a full 360°.
Q: Can this sensor detect all types of objects and surfaces?
A: The sensor works best with objects that are closer, larger, lighter in color, and have a rough texture, as these conditions reflect more infrared light back to the receiver. Very dark, small, or highly smooth/glossy objects may have a shorter or less reliable detection range.
Q: What is the difference between configuration A and configuration B?
A: Configuration A includes mounting holes for easy installation into enclosures or panels, while Configuration B does not have mounting holes, offering a more compact profile for custom installations.
