Watch Thermodynamics Come to Life with the Stirling Engine DIY Model Kit

Discover the fascinating world of heat-powered engines with this Hot Air Stirling Engine DIY Model Kit. Powered by a simple alcohol flame, this working model demonstrates how temperature differences can drive mechanical motion and even generate electricity — making it an outstanding hands-on science education tool for students, hobbyists, and curious minds of all ages.

Built from clear acrylic and metal components, you can watch every moving part in action as the flywheel spins and the alternator generates a small electrical current. It's a stunning desk display, a memorable gift, and a powerful physics learning tool all in one.

Made in Mainland China.

Key Features

  • 🔥 Heat-to-Motion Demonstration – Uses a small alcohol lamp to heat the working cylinder, causing the piston and flywheel to spin continuously — a vivid, real-world example of thermodynamic principles.
  • ⚡ Built-In Alternator/Generator – The included generator attachment converts mechanical motion into electrical energy, demonstrating the fundamentals of electromagnetism and power generation.
  • 🔬 Transparent Acrylic & Metal Construction – Every component is visible, making it ideal for classroom demonstrations and self-directed learning.
  • 🎁 Perfect Science Gift – An inspired gift for students, engineers, educators, and anyone passionate about physics, mechanics, or DIY science projects.
  • 📐 Compact Desktop Size – Measures 160 × 87 × 100 mm and weighs just 500 g — easy to display on any desk or shelf.

Specifications

  • Material: Acrylic & Metal
  • Dimensions: 160 × 87 × 100 mm
  • Weight: 500 g
  • Fuel Required: 95%+ alcohol (not included)

What's in the Box

  • 1× Assembled Stirling Engine Model (with alternator)

How to Use

  1. Rotate the flywheel by hand to confirm it moves freely and smoothly.
  2. Check that all sliding parts are clean and unobstructed.
  3. Fill the alcohol lamp to no more than two-thirds capacity using 95%+ isopropyl or ethyl alcohol.
  4. Place the lit alcohol lamp beneath the front end of the test tube.
  5. After approximately 1 minute of warm-up, give the flywheel a gentle spin — the engine will begin running on its own!
  6. Note: When the alternator is attached, allow slightly longer warm-up time before spinning.

⚠️ Safety Notice: The heated test tube and connected metal parts become very hot during operation. Do not touch these components while the engine is running or immediately after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of fuel does the Stirling Engine model require?

A: The model uses a small alcohol lamp filled with 95% or higher concentration isopropyl or ethyl alcohol. Fill the lamp to no more than two-thirds of its capacity for safe operation. Alcohol is not included with the kit.

Q: Is this Stirling Engine model pre-assembled or does it need to be built?

A: This hot air Stirling engine model arrives pre-assembled and ready to demonstrate. Simply fill the alcohol lamp, light it, and spin the flywheel after a brief warm-up period to see the engine run.

Q: Can this Stirling Engine model actually generate electricity?

A: Yes! The included alternator attachment converts the flywheel's mechanical rotation into electrical energy, demonstrating fundamental principles of electromagnetism and power generation — perfect for physics experiments and science education.

Q: Is this model suitable for classroom or school use?

A: Absolutely. This Stirling engine DIY model kit is widely used in science education settings to demonstrate thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanical motion. Adult supervision is recommended when the alcohol lamp is in use, especially with younger students.
